Vern Schooley Honored at Long Beach Bar Foundation 20th Anniversary of Shortstop Crime Diversion Program

On February 26, 2014, the Long Beach Bar Foundation celebrated its 20th anniversary with some eighty-five attorneys and supporters in attendance. Fulwider’s Vern Schooley was recognized for his past service to the Foundation, the Long Beach Bar Association, and American Inns of Court. Past President of the Bar Association and Foundation, Daniel McDonald, stated that, having known Vern for 25 years, Vern is not only a skilled practitioner of the law but a very special man, a generous man with a huge heart. Over the years Vern has donated his time and money to a variety of charitable events including the Foundation’s Golf Committee to organize and conduct charitable golf tournaments to generate funds for the ShortStop Program. The ShortStop Program is a juvenile diversion program focusing on first time offenders, their parents and guardians to participate in several court room sessions where volunteer attorneys, legal professionals and parolees dramatize what can be expected from a life of crime. In his absence, Vern’s wife, Trish Schooley (second from right), accepted the award presented by Daniel McDonald (far right).
