Fulwider Patton Is a Sponsor of Judges’ Night 2013

Fulwider Patton LLP is proud to be a Bronze Sponsor of Judges’ Night 2013 organized by the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association ("LAIPLA") and the Judge Paul R. Michel IP Inn of Court. The keynote speaker will be the Honorable Randall R. Rader, Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. After the keynote address, the chief judge will join in a panel discussion with the Honorable Andrew J. Guilford and the Honorable Gary A. Feess of the Central District of California. The judges are expected to address a host of hot topics in intellectual property, including judicial apprehension with regard to the America Invents Act and the implications of the modern hostility toward patent law.

At the joint meeting on February 21, 2013 of the Judge Paul R. Michel Intellectual Property American Inn of Court and the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association, Chief Judge Randall R. Rader of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit was introduced by Fulwider Patton's Vern Schooley, Counselor to the Michel IP Inn of Court, for the keynote speech. In his keynote speech, Chief Judge Rader spoke of the need for streamlining patent litigation and the importance on efficiency in conducting patent trials.

The Chief Judge then joined a panel discussion with the Honorable Andrew J. Guilford, and the Honorable Gary A. Feess, of the Central District of California. Judge Feess also is President of the Michel IP Inn of Court. The panel was moderated by Dennis Smith. The panelists had a lively exchange on a range of topic including whether deference should be given to the District Courts’ claim construction, particularly when based on factual determinations, the importance en banc opinions, and the pleading standards for patent infringement.
