Fulwider Patton LLP attorneys James Juo and Scott Hansen were invited to give a presentation entitled "FROM APPLE TO GOOGLE TO BATMAN: DESIGN PATENTS FOR AESTHETIC DESIGNS" to a meeting of the Computer and Internet Law Section of the Oregon State Bar on October 19, 2011.
Design patents protect the look of products, from computer icons to what appears on your computer screen to designer shoes to movie merchandise. Aesthetic design can be as important as its functionality when it comes to commercializing a product. This presentation will provide a brief overview of design patents, and compare design patents with trademark and copyright protection.
